Urgent Statement: Famine Alert - Catastrophic Humanitarian Situation in the Gaza Strip

Based on field reports and ongoing assessments of our teams working in the Gaza Strip, Rahma Worldwide announces that the Gaza Strip has entered an advanced stage of acute food insecurity, which threatens to reach famine levels according to established UN classifications.

An acute shortage of basic food supplies, primarily flour, has led to a tragic humanitarian situation where families are unable to access the minimum amount of food and medicine.

This crisis has been exacerbated by the complete depletion of food stocks, the forced shutdown of kitchens and bakeries, the absolute closure of crossings to all aid and the blockade imposed on Gaza for more than seventy days.

We at Rahma Worldwide stress the need to take this warning seriously by all concerned parties, and we call on decision-makers to take immediate and urgent action to save the lives of civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Today, we share with you the latest field data collected by our teams on the following shocking facts:

- More than 90 percent of Gaza's population is primarily dependent on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs.

- An estimated 3,500 children are at risk of sudden death in the coming days as a result of severe malnutrition and deteriorating health conditions.

- The majority of households rely on just one meal every 24 hours, while many have difficulty accessing any food at all.

- Alarming levels of malnutrition, with more than 70,000 children suffering from malnutrition, exposing them to serious long-term health risks.

- The cessation of all charity canteens and kitchens has compounded the scale of the humanitarian disaster and deepened the famine crisis.

- About 20% of pregnant women (out of 55,000) suffered from malnutrition, exposing them and their fetuses to life-threatening health risks.

- Deaths of pregnant women and their babies have been recorded as a result of the lack of necessary medical care and deteriorating health conditions.

- Hospital reports indicate that about 40 miscarriages are recorded every week, reflecting the harsh conditions that pregnant women are going through.

- Eleven out of 14 hospitals in Gaza are completely or partially out of service, according to Palestinian officials, making access to emergency and basic health care even more difficult.

- More than 100,000 injured people lack access to health care and face the risk of death as a result of malnutrition and lack of medicines and medical supplies.

Painful field testimonies:

Our field teams have also observed chilling scenes that epitomize the scale of human suffering:

- Entire families starving in the face of scarce food supplies.

- Mothers try to distract their hungry children by cooking bitter tea over a wood fire.

- Families forced to eat bread that has been infested with pests due to desperation and extreme hunger.

- Pregnant women giving birth in inhumane conditions on roadsides during displacement.

- Thousands of women and children are forced to sleep on the streets and sidewalks for days on end, in the absence of adequate shelter and tents and the continued waves of forced displacement.

In light of these shocking facts, Rahma Worldwide calls on the international community, UN and international organizations, and all concerned parties to take urgent action to ensure the unrestricted delivery of food and humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, based on the principles of international humanitarian law and human rights treaties, in order to prevent further loss of life.

We also emphasize that food and medicine should not be used as a weapon or a means of political pressure, as this represents a direct threat to the lives of more than two million besieged civilians. The continuation of this catastrophic humanitarian situation will constitute a flagrant violation of people's faith in international conventions, undermine the foundations of justice and humanity, and hold the international community legally and morally responsible for protecting civilians and ensuring their access to the basic necessities of life.

بيان إنساني عاجل صادر عن منظمة رحمة حول العالم

إنذار مجاعة

الوضع الإنساني كارثي في قطاع غزة

بناءً على التقارير الميدانية والتقييمات المستمرة لفرقنا العاملة في قطاع غزة، تعلن منظمة رحمة حول العالم عن دخول القطاع مرحلة متقدمة من انعدام الأمن الغذائي الحاد، والذي ينذر بالوصول إلى مستويات المجاعة وفقًا للتصنيفات الأممية المعمول بها.

فلقد أدى النقص الحاد في الإمدادات الغذائية الأساسية، وعلى رأسها الدقيق، إلى وضع إنساني مأساوي حيث أصبحت العائلات عاجزة عن الحصول على الحد الأدنى من الغذاء والدواء.

وقد تفاقمت هذه الأزمة نتيجة النضوب الكامل للمخزونات الغذائية، والتوقف القسري للعمليات التشغيلية للمطابخ والمخابز، واستمرار إغلاق المعابر بشكل مطلق بوجه جميع المساعدات والحصار المفروض على القطاع لأكثر من سبعين يومًا متواصلًا.

ونحن في منظمة رحمة حول العالم نشدد على ضرورة أخذ هذا الإنذار على محمل الجد من قبل جميع الأطراف المعنية، وندعو أصحاب القرار إلى التحرك الفوري والعاجل لإنقاذ أرواح المدنيين في قطاع غزة.

واليوم نشارككم أخر البيانات الميدانية التي جمعتها فرقنا حول الحقائق المروعة التالية:

• يعتمد أكثر من 90% من سكان غزة بشكل أساسي على المساعدات الإنسانية لتلبية احتياجاتهم الأساسية.

• يواجه ما يقدر بنحو 3,500 طفل خطر الموت المفاجئ خلال الأيام القادمة نتيجة لسوء التغذية الحاد وتدهور الأوضاع الصحية.

• تعتمد غالبية الأسر على وجبة واحدة فقط كل 24 ساعة، بينما يواجه الكثيرون صعوبة في الحصول على أي طعام على الإطلاق.

• مستويات مقلقة من سوء التغذية حيث بات يعاني أكثر من 70 ألف طفل من سوء التغذية، مما يعرضهم لمخاطر صحية جسيمة طويلة الأمد.

• أدى توقف جميع التكيات والمطابخ الخيرية عن العمل إلى مضاعفة حجم الكارثة الإنسانية وتعميق أزمة المجاعة.

• عانى حوالي 20% من النساء الحوامل (من أصل 55 ألفاً) من سوء التغذية، مما يعرضهن وأجنتهن لمخاطر صحية تهدد حياتهن.

• تم تسجيل حالات وفاة لنساء حوامل وأطفالهن نتيجة لغياب الرعاية الطبية اللازمة وتدهور الأوضاع الصحية.

• تشير تقارير المشافي إلى تسجيل نحو 40 حالة إجهاض أسبوعيًا، مما يعكس الظروف القاسية التي تمر بها النساء الحوامل.

• خرجت 11 مستشفى من أصل 14 في غزة عن الخدمة بشكل كامل أو جزئي بناء على تصريح الجهات الرسمية الفلسطينية، مما يزيد من صعوبة الحصول على الرعاية الصحية الطارئة والأساسية.

• يفتقد أكثر من 100 ألف مصاب للرعاية الصحية اللازمة ويواجهون خطر الموت نتيجة لسوء التغذية ونقص الأدوية والمستلزمات الطبية.

شهادات ميدانية مؤلمة:

كما رصدت فرقنا الميدانية مشاهد تقشعر لها الأبدان، تجسد حجم المعاناة الإنسانية:

• عائلات بأكملها تتضور جوعاً في ظل شح الإمدادات الغذائية.

• أمهات يحاولن تشتيت انتباه أطفالهن الجوعى عن طريق طهي الشاي المر على نار الحطب.

• عائلات تضطر إلى تناول الخبز بعد أن غزته الآفات بسبب اليأس والجوع الشديد.

• نساء حوامل يضعن أطفالهن في ظروف غير إنسانية على جوانب الطرق أثناء النزوح.

• آلاف النساء والأطفال مجبرون على المبيت في الشوارع وعلى الأرصفة لأيام متواصلة، في ظل غياب المأوى المناسب والخيام واستمرار موجات النزوح القسري.

في ضوء هذه الحقائق الصادمة، تدعو منظمة رحمة حول العالم المجتمع الدولي، والمنظمات الأممية والدولية، وكافة الأطراف المعنية، إلى تحرك عاجل لضمان إيصال الغذاء والمساعدات الإنسانية إلى قطاع غزة دون قيود، استنادًا إلى مبادئ القانون الدولي الإنساني ومعاهدات حقوق الإنسان، وذلك للحيلولة دون وقوع المزيد من الخسائر في الأرواح.

كما نشدد على ضرورة عدم استخدام الغذاء والدواء كسلاح أو وسيلة ضغط سياسي، لما يمثله ذلك من تهديد مباشر لحياة أكثر من مليوني مدني محاصر. واستمرار هذا الوضع الإنساني الكارثي سيشكل انتهاكًا صارخًا لإيمان الناس بالمواثيق الدولية ويقوض أسس العدالة والإنسانية، ويحمّل المجتمع الدولي مسؤولية قانونية وأخلاقية عاجلة لحماية المدنيين وضمان حصولهم على مقومات الحياة الأساسية.
